Trekking in the Sibillini Mountains

Discover your connection with nature.

During your stay, you can enjoy hiking and cycling along the trails of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. Explore Montefortino and its Fortunato Duranti Art Gallery, the charming medieval villages surrounding us, the Infernaccio Gorges, the Hermitage of San Leonardo, Mount Vettore, Lake Pilato, Mount Sibilla, and the Castelluccio Plains, which burst into a myriad of warm colors during the flowering season.

THE INFERNACCIO GORGES

THE INFERNACCIO GORGES

The Infernaccio Gorges are at the heart of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, a breathtaking and easily accessible natural wonder. Walking trails are accompanied by the gentle murmur of the Tenna River, winding its way through small waterfalls and flowing pools carved into the mountain.

LAKE PILATO – MOUNT VETTORE

LAKE PILATO – MOUNT VETTORE

Lake Pilato is located on Mount Vettore, within the Sibillini Mountains National Park, at an altitude of 1,941 metres above sea level.

To reach Lake Pilato, you can start from Foce, a small hamlet of Montemonaco.

MOUNT SIBILLA

MOUNT SIBILLA

Mount Sibilla and the Cave of the Sibyl are not only two magnificent natural havens, but are also steeped in legends and mystery that have fascinated scholars from all over Europe for centuries. To this day, they continue to captivate the minds and imaginations of people from around the world.

SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF AMBRO

SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF AMBRO

The second most important Marian place of worship after Loreto, the sanctuary stands on the left bank of the Ambro stream, in a beautiful valley sheltered by Mount Priora and Mount Castel Manardo.
It was founded around the year 1000, in a place where, according to legend, the Virgin Mary appeared to Santina, a young shepherdess who had been mute since birth. Every day, Santina would offer flowers to an image of the Madonna placed inside the hollow of a beech tree near a stream.

“FORTUNATO DURANTI” ART GALLERY

“FORTUNATO DURANTI” ART GALLERY

The gallery was born from the substantial artistic legacy of Fortunato Duranti, a distinguished local figure. Often described as the “Louvre of the Sibillini”, an affectionate exaggeration highlighting the remarkable collection of artworks housed here — certainly an extraordinary treasure for a small mountain village.

CHURCH OF SANT’ANGELO IN MONTESPINO

CHURCH OF SANT’ANGELO IN MONTESPINO

A remarkable church of Lombard origin, built on the site of an earlier pagan place of worship. Steeped in medieval charm, this evocative landmark can be seen from across the entire municipal area of Montefortino and stands prominently to the east of the village of Cerretana.

L’Oro degli Eremiti Beekeeping

Authentic mountain honey

Hive products

L’Oro degli Eremiti Beekeeping was born in 2006 from my passion for bees and the Sibillini Mountains. My hives are located within the National Park, in an unspoiled environment where rich floral biodiversity and mountain air create honeys with unique aromas and flavours, which have received several awards.

The name L’Oro degli Eremiti reflects my philosophy: gold represents the precious gift of the bees, while the hermits recall the ancient monks who once lived in these mountains and who already used honey and beeswax in their daily lives. This tradition lives on today in my packaging and in the stories that accompany each jar.

Every stage of production is carried out using traditional methods, from caring for the hives to natural honey extraction, in order to preserve the honey’s aromas, fragrances and quality. Alongside honey, I also produce propolis, beeswax and natural cosmetics made from hive products and essential oils obtained from locally grown medicinal plants.

Each jar captures the essence of this land: a place where nature, tradition and respect for bees come together to create an authentic product.
